- 00:12 - 00:19
Bugs, the Queen who banished Bugs, a tale of bees,
- 00:20 - 00:26
butterflies, ants and other pollinators Written by Faris Kelly Robinson

and illustrated by Mary Ferris Kelly.
- 00:35 - 00:38
Once upon a once in the kingdom of dunce lived
- 00:39 - 00:44
a king and queen and insects unseen King Claude ruled
- 00:44 - 00:46
the land and the sea and the sky.
- 00:47 - 00:48
How did he do it?
- 00:49 - 00:50
Why would he try?
- 00:51 - 00:54
He was brave and bold and strong and lean, but
- 00:55 - 00:57
scared to death of Queen Libertine.
- 01:02 - 01:05
She wanted all things exactly Just so.
- 01:06 - 01:08
From the blue in the sky to the water below,
- 01:09 - 01:14
some are required A waft like breeze Springtime must never
- 01:14 - 01:15
induce a sneeze.
- 01:16 - 01:20
She surveyed her fields from high on her hill, insisting
- 01:21 - 01:22
all conformed to her will.
- 01:23 - 01:25
Everything had to be perfect and neat.
- 01:26 - 01:33
Mary Aunt Berry, found close to a beat king fed
- 01:34 - 01:38
her by hand upon queens, demand the plum pissed strawberry
- 01:39 - 01:43
or reddest, sweet cherry loving watermelon.
- 01:44 - 01:47
The best she would pummel her chest till King plucked
- 01:48 - 01:50
all the seeds and filled her vast needs.
- 01:56 - 01:58
One day she spied a flaw in a field.
- 01:59 - 02:02
A teeny sweat bee sat on her heel.
- 02:03 - 02:07
She drew her hand back and launched her attack with
- 02:07 - 02:10
a smack in a whack in a very big flak.
- 02:15 - 02:18
The creatures audacity the creatures.
- 02:19 - 02:25
Veracity. The We bug discovered the queen's pug nous city.
- 02:26 - 02:31
Her battle screech roared over the land and terrified all
- 02:32 - 02:33
both critter and men.
- 02:34 - 02:36
The farmers stopped plowing.
- 02:36 - 02:37
The cow stopped cowing.
- 02:38 - 02:41
The owls stopped their hoots in King Claude.
- 02:42 - 02:44
Why he quaked in his boots.
- 02:45 - 02:49
Her tantrum was heard all the way to Quebec, far
- 02:49 - 02:52
past Mexico and throughout Van black.
- 02:53 - 02:53
Too late.
- 02:54 - 02:56
She cried off with his head.
- 02:57 - 03:04
The poor little fellow was already dead, but it wasn't
- 03:05 - 03:07
enough. She didn't stop there.
- 03:08 - 03:14
She forbade all insects, No place nowhere not stopping at
- 03:14 - 03:16
bugs with six tiny legs.
- 03:17 - 03:20
She destroyed the babies and even the eggs.
- 03:21 - 03:24
But dear King said bugs reside far and wide.
- 03:26 - 03:28
Would you not consider just going inside?
- 03:29 - 03:32
Of course he dare not suggest this allowed.
- 03:33 - 03:42
Instead, he just found her Kirsi and then vowed she
- 03:42 - 03:43
didn't stop at larva.
- 03:44 - 03:50
Moths, bees and ants, bats, beetles and snakes did not
- 03:50 - 03:51
have a chance.
- 03:52 - 03:56
All of these critters have an important role getting food
- 03:56 - 03:58
in a cup, a plate and a bowl.
- 03:59 - 04:00
Of course, Can Claude?
- 04:01 - 04:01
They're not disagree.
- 04:03 - 04:05
Plus, she demanded her daily high tea.
- 04:06 - 04:11
So they watched as potions, poisons and traps ensured the
- 04:11 - 04:13
whole anthropology class collapsed.
- 04:21 - 04:25
12. It wasn't long before the fields where bear not
- 04:25 - 04:27
a barren or fruit found anywhere.
- 04:28 - 04:31
No clover for the cows to eat meant no cheese,
- 04:32 - 04:35
no milk and certainly no meat.
- 04:36 - 04:38
We was the only crop that grew.
- 04:39 - 04:44
Queen was sick of bread and missed cashews, but every
- 04:44 - 04:49
plant that had a bloom was utterly useless and in
- 04:49 - 04:50
fact, was doomed.
- 04:56 - 05:00
Gone were apples, peaches, melons and Berries, bananas and grapes
- 05:01 - 05:04
and almonds and Cherries, not a cane of sugar nor
- 05:04 - 05:08
one lima bean know Jack O lantern for Queens.
- 05:08 - 05:18
Halloween Hi T was silly without the T and mornings
- 05:19 - 05:19
were awful.
- 05:20 - 05:25
Without coffee, chocolate was simply nowhere to be found.
- 05:26 - 05:28
The lack of all insects was very profound.
- 05:33 - 05:38
See, Pretty is as pretty does so pardon the pun.
- 05:39 - 05:40
But here's the buzz.
- 05:41 - 05:45
A stamina and pistol are in each bloom, even though
- 05:45 - 05:48
there isn't much room, and it takes both to make
- 05:49 - 05:51
food grow That's where bugs come in.
- 05:52 - 05:55
Just so you know, they spread the pollen between both
- 05:56 - 06:05
parts and that, my dear, is where food starts This
- 06:05 - 06:08
shortage of food in the kingdom of dunce met no
- 06:08 - 06:09
one was happy.
- 06:10 - 06:11
Hadn't been for months.
- 06:12 - 06:13
Things were dire.
- 06:13 - 06:15
King did not doubt it.
- 06:15 - 06:17
Dare he dared do something about it.
- 06:18 - 06:22
He started small with the tiny seed that grew and
- 06:22 - 06:23
grew to a tall milkweed.
- 06:29 - 06:33
Cone. Flower, bee balm and golden rod followed, and hordes
- 06:34 - 06:38
of pollinators sipped and swallowed by making a lovely bug
- 06:39 - 06:42
buffet. Can Claude quietly saved the day.
- 06:46 - 06:50
Queen viewed her kingdom from inside her tower as creatures
- 06:51 - 06:56
flitted from flower to flower, fertilizing all sorts of tasty
- 06:56 - 07:00
food that improved queens demeanor and attitude.
- 07:05 - 07:08
King Claude only had to keep her contained until she
- 07:09 - 07:12
was tutored and properly trained to care for the critters
- 07:13 - 07:18
throughout planet Earth and understand their vast importance and worth
- 07:19 - 07:27
the And Did you know that flowers make a sweet
- 07:27 - 07:31
energy drink nectar that bugs love?
- 07:32 - 07:35
They also make powdery stuff called pollen that is necessary
- 07:36 - 07:37
to make more flowers.
- 07:38 - 07:41
The pollen has to be mixed with pollen from other
- 07:41 - 07:44
flowers, but the flowers can't mix it themselves.
- 07:45 - 07:53
They need bees, wasps, beetles, flies, butterflies, moths, bats and
- 07:53 - 07:54
birds to do the job.
- 07:55 - 07:57
These little guys are known as pollinators.
- 07:59 - 08:02
Our pollinators are in danger and need our help.
- 08:03 - 08:06
We can save the day by planting native plants, not
- 08:06 - 08:10
using pesticides in our yards and making home for those
- 08:10 - 08:11
important little guys.
